Interior design, drafting and design consulting

Crystal Tkac
Founder
Crystal Tkac has more than 25 years of experience in interior design, architectural production and commercial construction management. She holds a Master of Architecture, a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design with a minor in Construction Management, and a Project Management certificate. She is also a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist.
While Crystal loves the creative side of design, from color, materials and textures to the pieces that give a room character and make it feel finished, her approach is equally shaped by her years in architecture and construction. She built and led the interior design practice at a Boulder architecture firm, coordinated construction documents as an architectural job captain, and managed commercial projects for a general contractor. That experience means every design is planned with structure, budget and construction in mind.
Crystal is not a licensed architect. Projects that require stamped drawings are completed with a licensed architect or engineer, engaged separately.
The practice
SiMa Design is a Denver interior design, drafting and design consulting practice serving homeowners, builders and architecture firms. The practice handles residential and small commercial work, from early concepts through construction documents.
Rather than starting from a signature look, each project begins with the people who will use the space: how they live and work, and what they want to feel when they walk through the door. The goal is a space that reflects them and supports the way they want to live.
SiMa Design works closely with the architects, builders and engineers on each project, collaborating early, while the design can still respond to their input.
Design approach
The work is modern and uncluttered, warmed by the Danish idea of hygge: natural textures, soft layered light and rooms that invite you to settle in. A few collected, eclectic pieces keep each space personal and full of character.
Every plan starts with function: how people move through the space, where the light falls and what the room needs to hold. Style and character are woven into a plan that already works.
Healthy and sustainable
For SiMa, natural, sustainable and bio-based materials are a passion. For clients who want a healthier and more earth-conscious home, SiMa Design can recommend low-toxicity finishes and durable products that help keep indoor air clean.

Her certification as an Aging-in-Place Specialist brings the same long view to accessibility, so homes stay comfortable and safe as the people in them grow wiser.
In Crystal’s words
“I love working with people to create inspired spaces that bring them joy, comfort, safety and good health.”

About the name
SiMa takes its letters from the names of Crystal’s two daughters. It is also an architectural term. On classical buildings, the sima is the upturned edge of the roof that carries rainwater away, often carved with friezes and lion-head spouts. A functional necessity made beautiful. That idea guides every SiMa Design project.
Aging in place
WiseAccess
WiseAccess, also part of SiMa Design LLC, is Crystal’s national resource for aging in place and home accessibility. It helps families plan the changes that let a parent, or themselves, stay safely and comfortably at home, with practical guidance, accessibility assessments and help choosing the right products.
